About two years ago I changed this plugin to store its data in the worker queue instead of its own table, greatly simplifying the code. This code was implemented to allow an upgrade path in case anyone was still using the old version. I think two years is enough now.

I'm unsure about this. We just recently someone who updated from a version many more years ago.

@heluecht it's fairly unlikely that they were running the mailstream plugin. For that matter, at this point I'd be surprised to learn that anyone apart from me uses it. In the worst case, removing this function would cause mailstream to miss a few messages, and leave behind a redundant table. But from then on everything would work.
