This is a new addon to add Mastodon custmo emoji support. For each OStatus post, this addon will attempt to get the custom emojis of the author's server from the cache (1 week duration) then from the Mastodon API endpoint.

Is there a way to block certain symbols (e.g. they are explicit or forbidden by state-law in your country) or is it a take them all situation with these emojis.

It is a take them all situation. You can still moderate offensive posts the same way you would do non-emoji posts.
